Rendez-vous 2011 is being held at the Ottawa Hampton Inn Conference Centre on May 3rd, 2011 with a special focus on Wireless Broadband. What services are driving the demand? What are the options for future spectrum requirements in Canada? What are the socio-economic implications for Canada?

Thomas W. Hazlett is Professor of Law & Economics and serves as Director of the Information Economy Project at George Mason University School of Law. He is also a Columnist for the New Technology Policy Forum hosted by the Financial Times. Prof. Hazlett previously held faculty appointments at the University of California at Davis, Columbia University, and the Wharton School, and in 1991-92 served as Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission.
Prof. Hazlett has published widely in academic and popular journals on the economics of the Information Sector. He has provided expert testimony to federal and state courts, regulatory agencies, committees of Congress, foreign governments, and international organizations. His book, Public Policy Toward Cable Television, was co-authored with Matthew L. Spitzer (MIT Press, 1997). |
Keynote Speaker - François Rancy, May 3, 14:00
Director, Radiocommunication Bureau, ITU
Mr. François Rancy was elected Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau by the Plenipotentiary Conference 2010 in Guadalajara, Mexico. He took office on 1 January 2011.
At the international level, he led the coordination of European delegations (CEPT) at WRC-03 and chaired the European Union group on spectrum management policy (RSPG) in 2007. He chaired the ITU–R Special Committee on Regulatory and Procedural Matters from 1997 to 2003, and the World Radiocommunication Conference in 2007.
François Rancy has been awarded the ITU Silver Medal (2007) and the titles of Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (1998) and Ordre national du mérite (1992). |
